Dan A. Krohn is a general business attorney with an emphasis on technology and Internet matters. In private practice for over 20 years, Dan offers clients a problem-solving approach that blends balanced thinking, customized strategies and hands-on legal skills. Resourceful, creative and non-judgmental, Dan is a seasoned practitioner who genuinely cares about people and their issues. The majority of his clients are closely held businesses, entrepreneurs and professionals with a wide variety of interests and obligations.
A native of Los Angeles, Dan graduated from high school in Columbus, Georgia, and in 1971, earned a B.A. in Economics from Emory University. While at Emory, Dan served as a disc jockey and then general manager at WEMO, the campus radio station. Deciding to pursue a legal career, Dan entered the University of Texas School of Law, where he received his J.D. in 1974.
Following graduation, Dan served as law clerk to the Travis County District Courts. He then became the first administrative law judge for the Texas Department of Banking, where he presided over hearings on state bank applications, domicile changes and other related matters.
In 1979, Dan moved to Houston and entered private practice. In the early eighties, he took a personal interest in computers and technology, and assumed the additional role of system administrator for his firm. At one point, Dan was the Unix system administrator for a firm of more than twenty users in two locations, in addition to maintaining his legal docket.
In 1989, Dan became a sole practitioner with a focus on computers and technology. Over time, this focus has evolved to matters involving e-commerce and the Internet. Dan has been fortunate to have sensed the growing interest in this complicated field, and he is known for helping clients use technology to their greatest advantage. In 1995, a close group of about 20 of Dan's friends made him the topic (without asking) of their weekly breakfast meeting. Some thirty minutes later they concluded that Dan is a philosopher, a role he takes quite seriously in his work, public speaking, and blog.
A popular speaker and author on law, trends and technology, Dan has spoken to the Electronic Messaging Association, the University of Texas Computer Law Conference, the Asian Chamber of Commerce, the Houston E-Commerce Success Super Conference, the Houston Chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and many others. His writing has been published in the Houston Business Journal, DBA Houston, Indigo Sun and Houston News Today Online.
Today, Dan takes pride in the thoughtful, bottom-line results he provides his clients, and the high ethics and integrity which are the hallmark of his practice. An active volunteer sitting on the boards of The Houston Friends of Music and the East Montrose Civic Association, Dan makes it a priority to "give back" both in and out of business.
